Entry for ticket holders is between 12-3pm. Latecomers will not be allowed entry.

Transport options

Getting here

  • Access is from Macquarie Street at Bent Street – no access from Alfred Street.
  • There will be a security checkpoint at the entrance to the Forecourt.
  • Public transport is the best way to get around on New Year’s Eve with thousands of extra services running. 
  • Driving is not recommended. For public transport information, visit transportnsw.info.
  • Macquarie Street will close to traffic on New Year’s Eve at 4:00am and will reopen on New Year’s Day at 10:00am. The Opera House Wilson carpark will be closed during this time. Plan ahead if catching taxis or rideshare. See road closure information.
  • Train

    The closest stations to the entry gates on Macquarie Street are Martin Place and St James. Trains will not stop at Circular Quay after 3pm.

  • Light rail

    Light rail services will not run to Circular Quay from 2pm

  • Bus

    Buses will relocate to Martin Place from 12pm and Hyde Park from 5pm.

  • Ferry

    Ferries will not stop at Circular Quay after 5pm.

Getting home

  • See the Getting home from Sydney CBD area map.
  • Pedestrian diversions are in place on New Year’s Eve. The way you arrive, may be different to how you get home. Be prepared for a longer walk to transport hubs.
  • Train

    The closest stations are Martin Place or St James. Access to Wynyard Station is from King Street only.

  • Light rail

    Light rail services to the south east will leave from Central only after 7pm.

  • Bus

    Buses leave from Wynyard, QVB and Hyde Park.

  • Ferry

    Limited ferries run after the midnight fireworks, services will be busy so have a back up plan.
